The eagle ears of Pat Thorne led her to capturing this stunning image.
From Pat:
"A knock, knock, knocking in the woods nearby drew my attention. There were two Pileated Woodpeckers feasting on larva in a decaying old spruce tree. These 17 inch long woodpeckers, with a long red crest are usually very adept at keeping out of sight. If they had not been tapping away I would have passed right by them."
Thank you Pat for sharing your amazing artwork with our readers.
James Polunci, a veteran educator and administrator has been hired to serve as interim superintendent at the Schroon lake Central School, the Post-Star reports.
Polunci, 67, from South Glens falls, has filled in at various districts for more than a decade. He will replace Bonnie Finnerty, who stepped down for personal health reasons after three years.
The Post-Star reports Polunci will serve until the Board of Education decides if it wants to hire a new superintendent or share the position with a neighboring district. You can read the full report, here.
If it's a Wednesday night in Schroon, there are two things guaranteed: a great time at the Square Dance in The Town Park near the bandstand, and long lines getting an ice-cream. Have fun.
