SCHROON'S OLD TYME CHRISTMAS: IT'S HERE

It’s Schroon’s Big Day of The Fall – the 29th Annual Old Tyme Christmas Celebration. There is so much going on today! You can refresh your memory by checking out our story here and here.

First up is the Christmas Bazaar and Luncheon at the Community Church. Susan Yoeckel tells us there will be plenty of terrific shopping and  a chance to recharge your batteries, by digging in with a hot bowl of soup, a sandwich and some yummy cobbler!

And be sure to pick up dessert to go for dinner. The action goes from 10am  - 2pm.

If you read us regularly, you know we are champions of the underdog, backers of those who help others and support those who need a extra little help. That’s why -- when our good friend David Peterson shared with us the following --  we knew we had to pay it forward.  We know our readers and we know the power of what all of us  -- as a group  -- can do. From David:

"Consider being a part of helping Phil get his bio-mechanical fingers before the end of the year. But the way, Phil is a Schroon Lake volunteer fireman".

Here is the back-story on Phil: On December 17, 2012, Phil Armstrong was in an accident and lost a portion of three of his fingers. As a man who works with his hands, this has been incredibly difficult for him.  For the last two years Phil and his wife Hannah, have been trying to get their insurance to cover bio-mechanical fingers for Phil. Two months ago, they were approved by insurance! Praise the Lord!  Phil and Hannah still have to pay a portion of these bills, however. Their part is $6000.00. And if they can get half of that by December 31, they won't have to pay their deductible! Let's help these wonderful servants of the Lord! What a blessing we are when we are HIS hands and feet!! Please, help me to rally around these dear friends in this incredible tangible way! You can check out the company here and help Phil out by clicking here.  There’s an amazing video of how The Bio-mechanical fingers work right here.

Glades Open at Gore

Okay -- so we have to admit we are a tad jealous of all of those lucky enough to be playing in the snow today, including our buddy, Paul Mrocka. When not skiing, dodging falling trees or making sensational hand crafted beer, Mr. Mrocka loves mixing it up in the Glades at Gore, which is what he was doing today.

.Yep, its just another reason to load up your tribe and come on up to the North Country. From the good folks at Gore:

"This week's storm dumped 8-14" (8" at the base, and 14" at the summits of Gore and Bear).  Several glades have opened, and our latest additions to the trail count include Topridge, Uncas, Pine Knot, and Twister to 1A! Snowmakers are working on Cloud, Open Pit, and Tannery- look for the Straight Brook and North Quads opening Saturday!  Save $10 off early season lift tickets through Sunday when you bring us one or more non-perishable food items for our holiday drive. Freestylers can find a few fresh features on Lower Sleighride, including a culvert, a double-sided hip, and a 20' step down!
Monday kicks off Take Your Kids to Gore Week #1- all children 19 & under ski or ride FREE with a full-paid parent!  Join us Wednesday, December 17 as Inside Edge presents their annual demo day with the latest skis from Atomic & Volkl".

So, what are you waiting for?
