The ODnawa House: Imagine If Those Walls Could talk?

UPDATE; The July 9th story telling session is at the Schroon North Hudson Historical Society.

Story telling is a rich tradition in the Adirondacks. Not only tall stories, but stories that present a living history of what life was like in these parts years ago. And Merritt Hulst, who has deep roots here, wants to preserve that tradition and keep those stories alive.

That’s why he is behind tonight’s inaugural story telling event at The BoatHouse on Dock Street. Tonight’s topic is What’s Special About Schroon and Jobs of Yesteryear in Schroon. The event goes from 7 pm - to 8:30pm.. Find out more in our History and Fun Facts section.

Schroon's July 4th, 2015: Let's Party in The Park

Saturday in the park
I think it was the Fourth of July

I think it was the Fourth of July
People dancing, people laughing
A man selling ice cream, singing Italian songs
"Eh Cumpari, ci vo sunari"
Can you dig it?

Yes, we  can: These lyrics – from the band Chicago’s famous song, Saturday In The Park  – pretty much sum up what Schroon’s Fourth of July may look like.

Today, Wednesday, July 1st, kicks off one huge week here in Schroon, If this is your 1st or 50th July 4th in our fine town, you are going to be part of a huge event – with guaranteed memories for life.

Once again this year’s event is an all day celebration – of our Independence, small town America style. (Although we think a parade that reportedly attracts 20,000 folks gives Schroon BIG TIME bragging rights.)

This year’s grand marshals  -- leading the parade – will be the cast and crew and directors of the Seagle Music Colony, who are celebrating their 100th anniversary. As always, there is something for everybody, says Schroon Lake Chamber executive director Tammy Whitty-Brown.

This is the first 4th of July Event for Tammy and there are literally “hundreds and hundreds of details.”

“Everything is in place. It’s all systems go,” Tammy told Schroon Laker today. “I’m no longer stressed.”

Back this year for the parade are several HUGE crowd favorites: The Blues Brothers, The Funky Karnaval Crew and the 110 piece Philippine Marching Band!

"We are very excited about having the 110 piece Philippine Heritage Marching Band back here for the parade. It was all very last minute," Tammy told us.

"It's the biggest marching band we have ever had,” The group hails from Toronto. Check out Saturday’s line up, in our 2015 July 4th Section.
