It’s a Bird, It’s A Plane…No It’s A Flyboarder

When Gary Tromblee is not working his gig at Sticks and Stones, he squeezes in as much time on the water as possible. And he’s always “camera ready”, eager to record anything of interest he catches on the lake.

So imagine his surprise when he witnessed a man flying through the air, attached to a jet ski!

It’s all captured in Gary’s amazing video (above) which he is sharing with readers of Schroonlaker.com. What Gary captured was a “Flyboard” in action.

It’s a type of water jetpack attached to a personal water craft, akak Jet Ski,  which supplies propulsion via water from a hose connected to the jet-ski, which propels the Flyboard through air.The Flyboard rider stands on a board, connected to that long hose.

Water is forced under pressure to a pair of boots with jet nozzles underneath which provide thrust for the rider to fly up to 49 feet in the air, or be able to dive headlong through the water down to 8 feet. The Flyboard was invented in the Fall of 2012 by a Frenchman Franky Zapata. ‪

The device made its debut at the Jet Ski World Championship 2012 in China. Since its introduction the Flyboard has sold around 2500 units at around $600 a piece. f you know this Flyboader, send us an email at schroonlaker@me.com

Tourism Boost For Greater Schroon in Winter

The winter economy for our area just got a huge boost, with the announcement Tuesday that The state Department of Environmental Conservation has finalized plans for a new recreational trail. Cue the cheers of area Snow Mobile/Sled riders

The 40-Mile Multi-Use Trail will run between the Towns of Minerva, Newcomb and North Hudson in the Adirondacks.

The move is part of Governor Cuomo’s unrelenting effort to promote tourism in the North Country.  While constriction is scheduled to start now, it won’t be until 2018 until all of the trails are open.
