Schroon Property Top Value at Essex County Tax Auction

Essex County picked up more than a million dollars at a recent auction from properties seized for unpaid back taxes, Lohr McKinstry reports for the Press- Republican. A total of 72 parcels with taxes owed since 2010 went under the auctioneer’s hammer at the property-tax sale at the Ticonderoga Best Western Plus Inn and Suites.

Schroon Lake took the honor of having the highest sale price of $155,000. The property is a three bedroom, 1.5 bathroom ranch style home, located at 12 Longview Drive. The property also features a two car garage and beach rights on the lake.

Homes.com values the property at $237,500. In 2015 it was assessed for tax purposes at $182,500. The sale was handled by Schroon’s own Haroff Auctions and Realty Company.

An Amazing Adventure: A Different View of The Hudson River

If you commute from the south to our part of the 'Dacks, there's a good chance you will glimpse the mighty Hudson River from New York City.  If you start your drive a little further up, you will cross it as you zip up I-87. And of course locals here get to cross it heading to and from North Creek.

If you are lucky enough to have experienced a white water raft ride, you know what a thrill it can be.

So imagine, taking the ride of your life on the Hudson, from the very beginning at Mount Marcy, all the way to Brooklyn. You can do it vicariously by watching this amazing video by Jesse Hooker.

The fundraiser is on all day Saturday at Sticks and Stones, until closing at 11;30pm.  It's all part of Frank 'n Stein, which you can read about here.

Get Out And Vote Tuesday and Meet Your Candidates Sunday

This coming Tuesday, three candidates are vying for two open seats on the Schroon Lake Town Board.

Marcia Hartnett, an independent,  will compete against Republicans Clara Phibbs and Don Sage.

Newcomer Hartnett is the president of the Paradox Lake Association and resides with herhusband Jim, in LeGoy’s Bay. She has been a year-round resident of Paradox Lake since 2011 and previously spent summers at Paradox since 1963.

Meanwhile on Sunday evening, you can meet with the candidates at the Mountainside Bible Chapel Gym at 6:00 pm. Candidates running for office in local and county elections will be in attendance to be a part of the program which is open to all candidates.

From MBC:

“A challenge will be given for responsible voting, good citizenship and personal involvement in local government. The evening will conclude with a dessert and coffee social which will give those in attendance time to talk with the candidates in a more informal setting.

This year we have a really good showing of five candidates from Chestertown/Pottersville, so if you live on the “south of the border” please plan to come and encourage members of your community. We also have Six Candidates from the Essex County, and four from Schroon Lake.

The event is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. For more information call 532-7128 ext. 3. Mountainside is located on Route 9, four miles south of Schroon Lake village”.
