Go Hiking with The Adirondack Mountain Club

We often get requests for information about hiking the High Peaks -- from day trips to overnight adventures. Besides hiring a local guide, The ADK Mountain Club is a valuable resource for anything and everything you wanted to know about the mighty wilderness that is in our backyard. You can check out their event calendar, by clicking here.

We have a preview of what they have planned this year in our Day Trips and Hikes section.

There is something for everybody -- novice to Everest bound climbers -- and it's well worth a read.

Wolf Stock 2016: What A Howler

It’s one of the premiere events of the Dog World – right up there with the Westminster Dog Show – but with a distinct Adirondack bark!

It’s Wolf Stock 2016, to be held this year over the weekend of June 18 & 19, right in the Center of Chestertown.

And organizers  -- from the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance-- are looking for a few extra helping paws for the event. They are meeting at the Panther Mountain Inn on Wednesday, April 13th, at 5:15pm to chew things over. So how cool is this event? More from Cindy Mead:

“Bring your four-legged friend for some pool diving with the Hudson Valley Dock Dogs, let them try their ‘paws’ at Agility & Lure Chasing with Doggie Fun Zone, show off their disc catching skills with the Beantown Disc Dogs or enter them in the My Dog Has Talent Show!

Police Canine Demonstrations, Adoption Agencies, Pet Groomers and Specialty Foods, Blessing of the Animals and music throughout the day promises this to be an event not to be missed! Wear your tie-dye as we go back to 1969 and don’t forget the Wood Stock Revisited at the Mill Pond in Brant Lake on Saturday night!”

Sounds like more fun than chasing a clowder of cats!

Kick Starting Your Week With Some Upstate Humor

With an upcoming comedy show on April 23rd at Witherbee's, it got us in the mood for some upstate humor. So courtesy of Jeff Foxworthy, here is his take on life in Upstate New York:

"You might live in upstate New York if..."

"If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Upstate New York."

"If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights a year because Saranac Lake is the coldest spot in the nation, and Syracuse gets more snow than any other major city in the US, you might live in Upstate NY."

"If your local ice cream stand is closed from October through May, you might live in Upstate New York." (NOT APPLICABLE TO SCHROON -- THANK YOU STEWART'S!!!)

"If you get 131 inches of snow in a week and you comment that 'winter's finally here', you might live near Oswego in Upstate New York."

"If you instinctively walk like a penguin for six months out of the year, you might live, bundled up, in Upstate New York."

"If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Upstate NY."

"If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Upstate New York."

"If you have worn shorts and a parka on the same day, you might live in Upstate New York."

"If you have had a lengthy phone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Upstate New York."
