Schroon Lakers -- and all of us in the North Country -- are blessed to have such a vibrant summer arts scene. Schroon is home to world class opera and Broadway musicals, with the Seagle Music Colony. And just a hop, skip and jump up the Northway is the Depot Theater.

Their new production, Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins, runs from July 28 to August 6. Written by Stephen Temperley, it's the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the New York Socialite who thought she could sing, but couldn’t.

Sound familair? Meryl Streep played Florence in a movie version with Hugh Grant. From the folks at the Depot Theatre:

"Never has so little talent given so much joy, amazement & laughter! Her recitals became a sensation in the 1930’s with everyone in on the joke except her. Her “career” culminated with a recital at Carnegie Hall. It sold out in two hours! By the end of that concert, her understanding of music (and our understanding of her) will both change profoundly".

Patsy Cline Tribute Comes To Schroon

Patsy Cline

Patsy Cline

In the eight short years that Patsy Cline recorded music, she left behind a catalogue of timeless classics, among them Crazy, Fall to Pieces and Walkin’ After Midnight.

Her life was cut short after a plane crash in 1963. Ironically, some of Patsy’s biggest hits were released posthumously.

And next Tuesday night, (August 1, 2017) Patsy’s spirit will be here in Schroon, in a tribute show performed by Cathi Rhodes, who describes herself as a “small town gal who loves to sing”

Cathi performs heartfelt renditions of some of Kline’s most popular hits. To take this road trip down memory lane, head to the Boathouse Theater on Dock Street.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. You can buy them in advance by visiting The Schroon Lake Arts Council website, by clicking here.

Can This Guy Make The Rain Disappear?

Let's hope Magician Jim Snack can. Regardless, he'll be in town Thursday at the Schroon Lake Library, keeping the kids entertained, with his show,  "The Magic of Respect."

Students learn about respecting people, places and things, with character lessons about respecting other people’s property, taking care of the environment, and treating classmates with R-E-S-P-E-C-T!.Thursday, 1 pm at the Schroon Lake Library.

A Red Molly in Schroon Tonight!

Three years ago the American Roots group Red Molly, blew the doors off the Boathouse Theatre. They did it again last year, as part of their farewell tour from full time touring. Tonight, one of the Molly's, Molly Venter, plays the Boathouse along with her husband, Eben Pariser, as Goodnight Moonshine. Molly's vocals are like velvet, pitch perfect and rich. You will be left wanting more. Trust us.

The concert is proudly bought to you by the Schroon Lake Arts Council. Tickets are $15 and and $5 for students. The show goes at 7.30 pm at the Boathouse on Dock Street.
