Jingle Schroon, Jingle Schroon, Jingle All the Way!

Jingle Schroon, Jingle Schroon, Jingle All the Way!

It’s beginning to look, feel and sound a lot like Christmas in Schroon right about now. In addition, there’s a huge weekend planned coming up featuring the annual tree lighting, a visit by Santa to the Strand and amazing shopping and eating deals.

Among the highlights, this year will be a brand, spanking new Polar Plunge and bonfire, a Gingerbread Cabin building event, Granny’s Attic Church Bazaar and Bake sale and an arts and crafts fair.

In fact, there are more 20 activities planned for both the day and night!

“We are getting the Strand Theater ready for Santa’s visit,” co-owner of the historic cinema Liz McNamara told Schroon Laker this past weekend.

“We are truly excited about the weekend and are very proud to be part of this tradition,” Lisa Hess-Marks from Pinecone Mercantile told us.

In advance of the weekend is Schroon’s version of the Rockefeller Center version of the Christmas tree. When we eyeballed the Schroon version, it was well north of 20 feet.

As always, music makes up a large part of Saturday with caroling at the tree, numerous musical performances at the Schroon Lake Community Church, a performance by the Schroon Lake Central School Bell Choir and Jazz band.

From Tony Tenda: The above cover picture  is from a storm last February, in which we got over a foot of snow. I believe it was this storm that ended a fairly long drought of not having a snowstorm in excess of 10" here in Northern NY for at least 1, maybe 2 winters.

Tony Tenda, Schroon Lake’s most trusted weatherman finally has his own Facebook page. Congrats, mate, on taking this leap. From Tony:

“I've been challenged several times to start my own weather page, so here it is!!! First off, I am not a Meteorologist; I came close, many years ago. What I am is a lifelong observer of weather, Northeast Winter weather particularly. I hope to provide notifications of winter storms, in advance, without spin or over-hype. Also severe weather outbreaks in spring and summer, as well as tropical systems info. Thanks for stopping by!”

Tony’s forecast for December: December is looking to shape up into a wintery pattern. The outlook for a White Christmas is looking better and better for many of us here in the Northeast. I can almost guarantee Northern New York and Northern New England will have a White Christmas. If you like snow and cold around Christmas, I think many of us will be happy. Time will tell.
