Roy Hurd in Schroon This Sunday

Roy Hurd’s Walk On The Mountain Storytelling Program has been engaging and inspiring elementary school children, in the Adirondack Mountains and beyond, for more than three decades.

Using a blend of Native American stories, shared with him by his Native American friends and teachers from the woodland Indian nations of the North East, his own original Adirondack Mountain songs, and disarming, mountain humor, this veteran performer plants the seed of “Earth Morals” in the minds and hearts of his listeners.

Within his stories and his songs, Roy gently shares the importance of family values, pride in his home, the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, and the importance of caring for the earth and our environment. This caring for the environment, to insure a healthy future for the unborn generations, is a cornerstone in the foundation of traditional Native American culture.

Roy’s music is a breath of fresh mountain air, and his storytelling innocently disarming. No matter what their age, his listeners leave with the feeling they have just experienced a special time in the mountains listening to a real back-woods, but well-traveled storytelling song man.

The show is Free and  starts at 1 pm in the Town Park.

Will New York Cut the Cord on Spectrum TV and Internet?

charter-communications-new-logoschroonlaker.jpg

Could hundreds of Schroon Lakers soon be looking for a new TV, phone and internet provider? Well, if you are a former Time Warner – now Spectrum customer – that fate may await you.

New York’s public service commission is trying to remove Spectrum, the state’s largest TV and Internet service provider, for bad behavior. (Spectrum is owned by Charter Communications).

Bad acts include allegedly reneging on commitments and breaking promises the company would get high-speed Internet service to rural communities, which the commission views, as its most serious failing.

The website Deadline Hollywood, which broke the story, reports:

“Charter countered by claiming broadband service has been provided to 86,000 homes and businesses. The commission said it will seek fines of $100,000 per day until the company meets its promise to extend service to households with slow or no Internet connection”

Also, we would love to hear from readers about their experiences with their new internet services from SLIC. Let us know in comments.
