Schroon’s Got Gas Again: Hold the Beano

schroonchristmascameearly.JPG

An Early Christmas Gift for Schroon Lakers. There they are, all shiny and red. The brand new pump stations at Stewart’s featuring six gas purchasing opportunities. For many, they are a welcomed blessing. Folks were complaining about having to drive a few extra clicks for a couple of months after the old pumps were out of commission, pending the completion of million dollar plus renovation of the Stewart’s at the corner of Dock and Main Streets.

The store’s official ribbon cutting is Friday. Cheap gas, coffee and cones.

Welcome to Schroon: Your Adirondack Christmas Capital

Schroon and Christmas have always made for a special combination. But this year, the festivities have expanded from a jammed packed one-night affair -- Schroon’s Old Tyme Christmas Celebration -- to more events on more nights.

A Silent Tree Auction, a Wine by Design evening, sledding on the hill at the Town Beach and a Holiday Christmas reading by Mrs. Claus at the library, are some of the new events joining the traditional crowd favorites this Saturday, December 8, 2018.

Much of the credit for the new ideas and their execution goes to Susan Palisano, the Executive Director of Schroon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Nicole Howe, her trusted deputy and chamber Office Manager.

The Chamber is also going all out to promote Schroon’s Old Tyme Christmas with high quality marketing:  from easy to read posters, to giving special events separate billing.

What is impressive about the revamped Schroon’s Old Tyme Christmas Celebration is how it seamlessly brings the community together — locals and second home owners — while attracting visitors who all enjoy the large number of free activities for families. And that’s good news to area businesses bringing traffic to Main Street and beyond.

The Chamber has long recognized the import of collecting all local events and branding them under one umbrella with the Old Tyme stamp. The new events increase the profile of the celebration.

What is the Chamber jazzed about?

“We are most excited by the new Silent Tree Auction. Five local businesses will each decorate a five-foot tall live tree,” Sue said.

Pine Cone and Mercantile, Flanagan’s Pub, Glens Falls National Bank, the Schroon Lake Wellness and Massage Center and Tops Friendly Markets will each have a tree.

If you are one of the five highest bidders in the silent auction, you can walk away with a ready-made Christmas: just add gifts!

Martin Thompson, who also supplied the Town’s Tree at the corner of Dock Street and Main Street, donated the trees for decorating.

Sue is also excited about a snow making machine that will be used to enhance the snow already on the hill at the Town Beach.

Saturday December 8 will feature Santa’s visit to the Strand Cinema, horse and carriage rides, an Arts and Crafts market, a Christmas Bazaar, the Polar Plunge and bonfire, children’s crafts, free hot chocolate and coloring, the Tree Lighting and Carol Singing ceremony and the holiday raffle basket.

Besides the list of organized events, Pine Cone and Mercantile will host a Food Tasting of Pine Cone Provision’s latest offerings.

Events earlier in the week include an Ugly Sweater Contest and the Schroon Lake Central School Holiday concert.

What are you most looking forward to?
