While Schroon Lake continues to be a magnet for the arts – both visual and musical – a community of crafters who call Schroon home are bringing attention to their community.

The works of more than a dozen area crafters are now featured at the recently opened Marketplace store on Main Street.

The idea for the Marketplace grew out of a Thursday summer crafter’s market organized by Mickey Abbott, who owns Everyday Ceramics.

“The crafter’s market this summer was very successful and we saw an opportunity to keep this going,” Mickey told Schroon Laker.

“Lorraine (From Lorraine’s Boutique) found the space and all of us from the summer crafters fair are now here.”

The Marketplace also features Hayfield Gifts, Adirondack Log Works and North Country Naturals. “We are adding new crafters on a regular basis. We started with half a dozen and now have more than 12.”

New at the marketplace this month are Adirondack Kissing Balls and wreaths. The store also features hand crafted jewelry, clothing, incredible knitted and crochet items from Lorraine. AKA “The Knit Wit” of Schroon Lake”, gifts embroidered with “Schroon Lake” and dozens of hand made treasures.

The Marketplace will be open through January 2nd. And the Thursday Crafters Market and Fair will be returning to Schroon for the summer of 2012.

“We recently got approval from the Town. This is a great opportunity for local crafters.”
