“We Were Lucky”

The Schroon Lake Bed and Breakfast on the north end of town had an unwanted guest checking in yesterday –- a massive maple tree that came crashing into the side of the house at around 2pm.
“We were inside and we heard this massive kaboom. It came down heavy. It sounded like a train hitting us,” Co-owner Mark Piper told Schroon Laker today.
“There was a guest inside the room near where the tree came down. We were very lucky,” he said.
The maple, three feet in diameter and a length which Mark describes as “it’s huge man”, also caused damage to the roof and attic.
“We won’t know for sure how much damage we got until after we get the tree down. Mark plans to attack the tree with his chain saw, and the help of several friends, also armed with chainsaws.
“We are gonna sing ‘Goodnight Irene’ and get us a whole pile of firewood.
Mark said the damage could have been a lot worse. “We had a birch tree come down on the other side of us -- but missed us completely.”
The B&B has be without power since yesterday, but when we spoke to Mark he was ready to serve his guest a hot breakfast – thanks to their generator.
