Fireworks, a huge bon fire, a sock hop, Shakespeare and arts and crafts are the headliners at this year’s Schroon Lake New Year’s Eve Festivities.

The action takes place at two locations  -- the Schroon Lake Central School and the Town Park, near the bandstand.

“We wanna bring everybody out and get into the spirit of the New Year. It’s better than sitting at home and watching TV,” said one of the organizers, Tony Kostecki.

And the signature luminary walk which light up the path to the massive bon fire and viewing area for the fireworks, will be back again.

”The action this year will be closer to the band stand because of where the fireworks are being launched because of new safety rules.

“This is a huge event for Schroon Lake and we are hoping that it will be bigger and better than last year".

Every year organizers of the event, proudly sponsored by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce, want to enhance the exprience and this year they are proud to add performances by Schroon Lake’s own ADK Shakes Company.

“ADK shakes will be doing special shows geared towards a young audience,” Tony said.

And if you have never seen ADK Shakes in action, you are missing out. Everybody gets to experience the stories that are bought to life by company founders, the incredibly talented Patrick Siler and Tara Bradway.

You can check out why they are so popular, right here.

New Year’s Eve kicks off at the SLCS with the sock hop in the gymnasium and ADK Shakes in the Auditorium.

ADK shakes perform two shows, at 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm. The sock hop goes from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm in the Gymnasium.

At around 8.45 pm there’s the walk from the school to the Town Park for the bon fire and fireworks. Expect the fire to go up in flames at around 9 pm, followed by the scheduled blast off of fireworks at round 9:15 pm.

“It’s gonna be a great, family themed night,” Tony said.

The fireworks, luminary walk and bon fire are free. This event is entirely underwritten by the Schroon lake Chamber of Commerce. To help the Chamber cover costs a nominal fee is being charged for the sock hop and ADK Shakes Production. Tickets are available in advance at the Chamber office for $5 per adult and $2 per child.
