The Schroon Lake Weekender: Your Guide To Summer Fun

The summer season is in full, tilt boogie mode. The countdown to July 4 is T-Minus 6 days. But there's so much to do between now and then. Here a a few ideas. And if you've got an event, tell us about it in comments, or shoot us an email at schroonlaker@me.com.

Friday

Schroon North Hudson Histrorical Society. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 12.30 pm - 4pm.

There's a new movie playing at the Strand tonight through next Thursday. The huge hit Madagascar 3, which has grossed more than $200 million at box offices around the world, finally makes its Schroon debut. It plays every night at 8pm 'til next Thursday.

Wanna learn more about the Big Cats of the Adirondacks? Wildlife biologist Paul Jensen will talk about the historical distribution of mountain lions, Canada lynx, and bobcats in the Northeast tonight at the East Shore Schroon Lake Association’s annual meeting. Pottersville Fire Station @ 7.30pm. Refreshments will be served.

Live music at Witherbee’s Carriage House with local favorite the Willie Playmore Band in the loft at 7 pm. Free.

Dance Party Schroon style. DJ Vinnie Vinyl spins the hits from 8 pm - midnight at the Timberwolf Pub.

A ton of family fun can be had at the Word Of Life Ranch in Pottersville with this year's first rodeo, with some very cool family fun activities. Pony rides, a petting zoo, clowns and  face painting are just a few of the activities from 7 pm  - 8pm. Stick around for the rodeo. Free.

Saturday

Town  wide garage sales all weekend. There's a new Facebook group which lists all area sales. You can find it here.

Need a good summer read or wanna update your CD or DVD collection? Check out the Used Book Sale: 10am  - 2 pm Basement of the Hudson Headwaters Health Building. Sponsored by the Friends of Schroon Lake Library.

Karaoke At Timberwolf’s Pub. 9 pm  - 1 am. This Schroon Lake tradition – ten years old this year – lives on every Saturday night.

Big Building Materials Auction at the legendary Gokey's Auction House and Trading Post, Route 9, North Hudson. Preview at 8am. Hammer time at 10 am.

Sunday

Frontier Town Day. Friends and fans of this long shuttered classic western theme park in North Hudson, gather at Gokey's Trading Post on Route 9, to share memories and stories. various displays and a gun demo of the wepaons used during the them park's heyday.
