Drawing The Artist Out Of Schroon Lakers

There’s no shortage of art and artists in our community, and it’s never too late to start dabbling! That’s what more than a dozen folks have recently discovered by attending a creative drawing class, sponsored by the Schroon Lake Library, after winning a grant.

The results of the 8 week course will be on display at a reception, this Friday (October 25), at the meeting room at The Town Hall.

The class, taught by local artist Carol Gregson, was made possible by a grant from Leisure Creative Arts.

“They want to study the effect of aging (55 and over)  and how it relates to art,” librarian  Jane Bouchard told Schroon Laker today.  Schroon was one of two New York sites chosen for the study, the other downstate in Westchester County. As part of the grant, the class had to be given by a teaching artist – and Carol Gregson was a perfect fit.

Jane says she’s “very impressed” with the some of works.

“I think the students showed some real talent, although they didn’t think so.”
