Save The Date & Save The Strand: This Saturday Night

In what promises to be a spectacular and fun night out – the glorious history of our hamlet’s Strand Theatre will come to life in a very creative way this Saturday.

And along the way, you’ll learn about the history of Schroon’s other movie palace – the Paramount. Those are just two of the gems contained in a 17 minute documentary, "We Got The Picture", from film maker Elena Rossi-Snook. Her family owned and operated several  theaters throughout Upstate New York beginning in the 1930s. The movies which tell this story were all shot by Elena's family. Audio interviews conducted decades later provide the soundtrack this love letter to family and their legacy. Elena will introduce the film, a finalist in the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.

Also on the program is a rare commercial promoting Frontier Town, recently discovered by  the Strand's current owner Larry McNamara. And for fans of Hollywood in the 1950s,there will be an appearance by Lil Richardson, an extra who appeared in background scenes with Natalie Wood, in Marjorie Morningstar.

Lil will introduce rare behind the scenes home made films taken on the set of the Morningstar production, much of which was filmed on location at Scaroon Manor.

We will have an extended feature story later this week featuring interviews with Elena and her mother Emily. You can see the full program here.
