Schroon's Secret Art Gallery

For the many visitors, who flock to Schroon’s Towne Store for summer clothing, toys, camping gear, books, postcards and an assortment of ADK themed gifts and goodies, most never make the climb to discover a hidden treasure.

It’s Art In The Attic, where works from more than 20 artists are on display and for sale. Owner Patti Mehm turned the space into a gallery about 5 years ago, to showcase the works of some of the area’s talented artisans, from sculptors, to painters, to photographers, potters, wood workers and water colorists.

“My concept was initially to bring local artists together and have a place for them to show their works,” Patti told Schroon Laker today.

“A lot of our artists (on display) are from this area, but we’ve expanded, and now feature many talented crafts folks from up and down the north east are represented here.”

“I wanted a space where folks could pick up an affordable piece of art to take home with them. (Prices range from around $15 for pottery, up to $4,000 for a large bronze sculpture.” (There are two cases of handmade jewelry on the made floor)

The Towne Store is also having its yearly Summer Sale, with many goods in the store (excluding Art in The Attic) discounted by 20 per cent. And for those in the mood -- and on the lookout for some Christmas themed items -- the store will have some, potentially as soon as this weekend.
