Schroon Lake is headed for “a new direction” in economic growth, with new businesses, events and jobs for the town.

Those will be some of the goals that a newly created  position of Executive Director of The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce will have to meet, Shelby Davis, vice president of the Chamber board of directors announced today.

“The position will bring a new direction to give economic sustainability to the town,” Shelby Davis told Schroon Laker today.

“Projects like the Woods Lodge (the Inn on Schroon Lake) are a good example. We need more projects like that, and someone to bring those projects here...projects that will be sustainable throughout the year and bring jobs throughout the year.

“We also need someone who is actively looking to bring new events to the town to compliment  the summer events. We want to extend the season to make this a year ‘round destination.

“We need more winter events. The more events we have the more money and jobs for the town.”

From Tony Kosteki,  the board president, from the Chamber’s press release:

"The addition of a full time Executive Director is a very positive and logical next step for our organization, and the new position will result in our ability to provide more services and events support for our members and residents of the Schroon Lake Region." said Tony Kosteki, board president.  "The right person will allow our organization to take on a more proactive role in regional marketing and economic development initiatives on behalf of our business community."

Shelby said the board hopes to hire someone from the North Country.

“It’s absolutely important for us. We need someone with a unique perspective of where this town has been and where it needs to be”.
