There will be new faces patrolling Schroon Lake this year, as part of a new approach by the Warren County Sheriff Nathan "Bud"  York to save money.

York has hired seven retired police officers to work part-time manning patrol boats, according to a report in the Post Star.

Under an arrangement between Essex and Warren Counties, sheriff's deputies from Warren County patrol the Essex County portion of Schroon Lake.

The new boat patrol officers will be paid between $17 and $18 an hour, which is less than full-time officers and a huge savings when overtime had to be paid to full-time officers, who previously split their time between their regular and lake patrols.
