Martha Ann Knox: 1924 - 2014

Schroon Lake — Martha Ann Knox passed away Aug. 12, 2014.

Martha was born Sept. 4, 1924, on the family farm homestead in Severance, New York. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Carr Knox and Forrest H. Knox.

Martha leaves behind one sister, Eleanor Ruth Jenks; her nephew, Douglas (Linda) Jenks; two nieces, Marcia (Dennis) Gaige and Patricia (Damon) Simonds; several grand-nephews and grand-nieces; and great-grand-nephews and great-grand-nieces.

Martha attended and graduated from Schroon Lake Central School. She went on to receive training to become a telephone operator and also had schooling to become a licensed hair dresser.

She worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Albany, New York and also in Washington state for a time.

Martha settled in New York City and lived there for years working as a telephone operator for Met Life Co. She also worked for Public Broadcasting in New York City.

Martha won the International Award for the volunteer work she was involved with over many years at Bellevue Hospital in New York  City. She retired to Saratoga Springs and lived her life out there.

Martha will be missed by family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau and also Hospice of Saratoga for the love and care they provided for Martha.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, 1019 US Route 9 in Schroon Lake. Interment will follow at Severance Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Friday until the service.
