A worker at International Paper’s Ticonderoga mill who suffered severe burns Friday morning has died.

Jorg Borowski, 57, of Schroon Lake died Friday night at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, as a result of severe burns after an accident at International Paper’s Ticonderoga plant.

Reports from the Press Republican and NBC’s WPTZ say Borowski was part of a maintenance crew working at the mill’s Power House. That facility produces power for the plant’s two paper machines and burns fuel oil and bark to generate electricity.

From The Press Republican: “International Paper had a corporate investigation team on-site Saturday to probe the death; U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Agency investigators were also there. Essex County Emergency Services Director Donald Jaquish said he was also apprised of the incident. Mill spokeswoman Donna Wadsworth said she and other employees are saddened by Borowski’s death, and “we are trying to work through it. It’s a difficult time here.”

International Paper released a statement about the tragedy: "We are deeply saddened by this loss. Jorg was a valued and respected member of the Ticonderoga mill family. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family, friends and mill team members.”
