The Selfie Shoe/Flip Flop Comes To Schroon

Two empty Main Street Schroon Store fronts are about to become the home of the official distributor of the new “Selfie Shoe” in the North Country.

The exuberant owner of the new business, Johnny Heel, said he chose Schroon after a lot of foot work.

"This town is so picturesque, with so much beauty. Everyone takes photos! It was literally the shoe that fit with my business plan”.

The shoe is available in several models, from date night stilettos to hiking boots, to flip flops Heel said.

"One of the main reasons this will be huge in Schroon is that during the summer months folks have their hands full -- from ice cream cones at Stewarts to holding their Paradiox Beer glasses. Operating the traditional selfie stick is just a flat footed move.

“We plan on pushing the flip-flop version. It’s gonna be a big hit with the summer people.”

Heel's new business will occupy two vacant store  fronts  --- recently renovated --  between Flanagan's and the Timberwolf Pub.

Various locals welcomed the news.

“If it brings business here, it’s good for the town. We’ll be one step ahead,” said Terry Wingtip, who we caught up with at the ‘Wolf.

"I would totally buy the stiletto model," said Sally Shoeman, who we talked to at the Schroon Lake Shopping Mall, aka the Dollar General.

But not everyone was happy.

"I walked a mile, infact more like seven miles, at the trade show in Atlanta In January to get the exclusive license for this," said a disappointed Patti Mehm, from the Schroon Towne Store. "Clearly, we have to step up our game next time," said Patti's husband, Bob.

French 3-D technology wiz,  Alban Denoyel, a recent visitor to Schroon, who made a famous 3D rendering of the Paradox Beer Bear this past winter, said he would return to Schroon this summer to photograph the Selfie Shoe.

"Our 3-D rendering will showcase the selfie chaussures  in all its glory," said Albon.

The shoes are made by the Miz Mooz company. They are being touted as the replacement for Selfie sticks — which are now banned at music festivals, New York Art Galleries and The Smithsonian. Here’s how they work:

1. PLACE YOUR PHONE IN THE SHOE’S/HIKING BOOT/FLIPFLOP “DOCKING PORT.”

2. TAP A SENSOR INSIDE YOUR FOOTWEAR WITH YOUR TOE TO TAKE A PHOTO.

3. SAY CHEESE! SEND TO YOUR FRIENDS AND MAKE THEM JEALOUS YOU ARE IN SCHROON!!!

The announcement today is one of several that is generating huge headlines for the ‘Dacks, including the ADK Park’s Blue Line being illuminated and a multi-billion project to light the park at night.
