Free Fishing In Schroon This Weekend

New York State hosts its annual “free fishing weekend" this weekend and adults are free to fish -- without a license -- all weekend long.

The State hopes that exposing more people to fishing will increase license sales. And what that potentially means for Schroon Lake is getting more people to experience our quaint hamlet and spend some quality time and dollars here.

Besides our own great lake, there are many other quick and easy-to-get-to spots, including many along the Hudson River, where you may find bass or panfish. Further south there’s the town of Queensbury parks at the end of Big Boom Road or in the Hudson Pointe development, boat launch on Spier Falls Road in Moreau and Hudson Crossing Park in Schuylerville.

If you want to try a lake, Lake George can be fished from any of the state access points around the lake, including Shelving Rock Day Use Area, Mossy Point and even Dog Beach in the village of Lake George. Brant Lake, Saratoga Lake and Moreau Lake are other lakes in the area with good fishing and public access.

Free fishing weekend runs Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, 2016.
