RIP: Raymond C. Whitty 1930 - 2016

We know of many folks deeply saddened by the loss of Raymond Whitty, who passed away on Friday July 15, 2016, at his home, after an extended illness.

His family was by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, 1019 US Route 9 in Schroon Lake. Interment will follow at the Severance Cemetery.

Family and Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home on Monday, July 18.

From Raymond's official obit, in the Post-Star:

"Raymond was born in the Town of Schroon Nov. 29, 1930, the son of the late Julius and Bessie Palmer Whitty. Raymond was also predeceased by his brothers, Julius Whitty Jr. and David Whitty.

He was a graduate of Schroon Lake Central School, and served in the United States Army in Korea in the AUS INF from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He received the Bronze Service Star.

He was employed for many years as a truck driver for Drake Lumber Corporation, and most recently as a truck driver for the Town of Schroon Highway Department. He retired in 1996.

Raymond assisted many people around the area, mowing their hay fields and taking care of their lawns, and general cleanup of their properties. He made maple syrup at the family sugar bush for many years. He enjoyed wrestling and county and state fairs.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan Joiner Whitty of Schroon Lake; his daughters, Arlene (Punki) Whitty of Schroon Lake, and Linda O’Dell of Ticonderoga; his brothers, Donald Whitty of Schroon Lake, and Robert (Sandra) Whitty of Hillsboro Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all those who assisted them during Raymond’s illness. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials take the form of donations to the Severance Cemetery or the Schroon Lake Emergency Squad".
