Adirondack Marathon Cancelled Due to Health Concerns

Organizers of this weekend's ADK Marathon have cancelled the marque event because of unseasonably hot weather and concerns for the safety of runners.

The decision was made Thursday after the organizing committee meet with the event's medical teams.

Sunday's forecast calls for a top of 89 degrees with high humidity.

FULL MARATHON : The full marathon is cancelled due to the high temperatures and humidity forecast. This decision was made after careful analysis in consultation with our medical team and race managers concerning the health risks to the marathon runners.

Marathon runners are invited to run the half marathon and will receive a marathon medal. Marathon runners may also defer their registration to next year. (Please note, those runner’s who opt to postpone their entry until the 2018 marathon will be required to pay a $25 deferral fee when registering for the 2018 race.) Again runners will be shuttled by bus from Schroon Lake Village starting at 7:45 am to the half marathon start in Adirondack.

HALF MARATHON :The half marathon will be held starting earlier in Adirondack at 9:10 am, and runners will be bused over from Schroon Lake starting at 7:45 am. The half marathon will follow the usual course back into Schroon Lake Village. The two-person and four-person relays will take place over the half marathon course, along with the half and at the same time.

SATURDAY EVENTS : Events on Saturday morning in Chestertown (5K and 10K) and the Kids Fun Run on Saturday in Schroon at 2 pm are still on.
