Each year folks from all around the lake gather in the hamlet of Adirondack for a good old fashioned Shindig.

It's a street dance party, music fest and garage sale all in one, proudly sponsored by the The Town of Horicon and the Town of Horicon Historical Society. The main event is on  Church Street from 5pm - 8pm.  In the morning there's a ton of activities. Picnic style food will be available.

Here is more about the event from Horicon Town Supervisor Matt Simpson:

“Saturday August 11th is a special day in Adirondack on the east shore of Schroon Lake with events and activities throughout the day and evening. The day begins with the Adirondack Yard Sale near the Recreation Field from 9am until 3pm, YMCA activities planned for youngsters mid-day on the Recreation Field and the ever-exciting Adirondack Shindig in the evening from 5pm to 8pm.

[Yard sale spaces are still available- contact Peggie: 518 494-4430 or Janet: 518 494-2191.]

Church Street closes at 4pm to get ready for the big event.

Shindig Coordinator Kathy Hill says “The stage is set up in front of the historic former Union Church built in 1881 and being restored for use as a historical museum facility.” She added “Get ready to dance when Shindig presents the one and only "Log-Jammers!"

“Bring your own chairs, sit back and enjoy the entertainment.”

Shindig benefits the Historical Society's project to save the 1881 church for use as a Museum Annex to be open to the public on this Town-owned property. Major reconstruction of the structure is underway with a new foundation already installed and public bidding imminent for the final construction contract to make the facility handicap accessible and Code compliant. Over $50,000 contributed by hundreds of individuals and businesses and aided by a $100,000 New York State grant are saving this historic church structure. Additional donations and raffles at this year’s Shindig will go toward final cost of giving a new museum life to this historic building.
