Schroon Making the Best of a Very Different 2020 Memorial Day Weekend

A hat tip to the Town and businesses of Schroon who are creatively pulling out all the stops to try to make this Memorial Day as “normal” as possible.

First up: great news for golfers. The town course is open today. And Town Supervisor Jeff Subra says with new changes in COVID restrictions, the Schroon Lake Golf Course will now permit personal golf carts with paid cart path fees and club rental carts.

For folks who haven’t taken a stroll down Main Street since last season, there maybe a few jaw dropping moments. The two brand, spanking new store fronts of 9-Mile Coffee and Pitkin’s Restaurant. Read our story on the new 9-Mile Coffee by clicking here.

And there’s two new business additions: Everybody 518 Nutrition (a shake and smoothie bar) and the new Peak Properties real estate company, with its eye-popping orange chairs.

What would Memorial Day be without ice-cream and beer? Good news on both fronts. The Sticks and Stones ice cream truck  -- aka Licks and Cones  - is open this weekend operating on  the same schedule as Sticks: Friday 4pm – 8pm and  Saturday - Monday 12pm  - 8pm.. At Paradox Brewery there’s a new release: ParaHelles. Brewery Founder Paul Mrocka says the beer is a tribute to our armed forces and invites drinkers to find all of the military icons embedded on the can’s unique label. Available for curbside pickup on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm - 6pm. Monday 12pm - 4pm. To place an order call (518) 351-5036. All active duty and former military men and women get a free can this weekend. And as of today, joining the list of restaurants open for carryout, is the Timberwolf  from 3pm -8 pm.

And from Tops: Here are their new summer hours: Sundays 7am - 9pm. Monday,Wednesday Friday Saturdays 7am-10pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays 6am-8am (for elderly and those with comprised immune systems) then open till 10pm. The office and deli close 1 hour before the store closes.
