The Census and Seasonal Home Owners

The good folks at the East Shore Schroon Lake Association sent an email blast to its members reminding them that seasonal and second home owners need to complete a census form for every property they own.

Here is what you need to do:

For each property you own but use only part of the time, please follow these instructions:

1. Visit www.my2020census.gov.
2. Enter the Census ID or address for your secondary property.
3. Enter “0” for the number of people living at this property.
4. Hit Next, and when a “soft error” occurs, click Next again.
5. Select “No” when asked to confirm no person lives at this property.
6. Select primary reason – for example, "Seasonal."
7. Complete!

And we are hearing from Joe Steiniger  that Schroon Lakers in Essex County need to be counted.

“As of last week (8/26), only 40% of Essex County residents and only 24% (!!!!) of Town of Schroon residents had responded to the census! It is urgently important for our area residents to be accurately counted for our community to receive its proper amount of federal benefits (and Congressional representation). If you are not SURE you have responded, please click on the link in the post and BE COUNTED! Please forward this to anyone you think might not have responded to a census questionnaire. Time is running out!

Gore Gets Better: Two New Chairs And Trail Changes for the 2020-2021 Season

Many of us who are lucky enough to call Gore their “home” mountain, were bummed about the shortened season due to Covid-19. We were among the last to ski there before New York State shuttered all ski resorts. So it was heartening to recently learn there are two new chair lifts on the way and other trail modifications.

The rickety old High Peaks Chair is being replaced with a new quad that will deliver skiers to Gore's true summit, opening up fresh access to all four peaks and the entire Straight Brook Valley. Woot!

More from the folks at Gore:

“The Sunway Chair is also being upgraded with a new quad, creating an even better experience for everyone.  This new lift will feature a modern and comfortable conveyor-style loading area that is ideal for those just getting started and for groups with small children.  Look for a better unloading zone a little further up the mountain too.

The Cutoff trail, previously rated as more difficult, is being lengthened and redesigned as an easier-rated trail. It will offer an additional beginner option for family-friendly adventures, and another place in Gore's improved learning area for novices to practice.

The reservoir for snowmaking is being expanded, resulting in a significant increase of system capacity.  Gore can pump more water through its recently modernized snowmaking infrastructure of automated technologies, energy-saving compressors, and high-efficiency guns to provide quality coverage on more trails earlier in the season”.

Summer Fun at Gore . Open 10am-4pm Thursday-Sunday through September 6, and fall weekends until October 11. For the health and safety of all guests and staff, please review Gore’s  Operational Updates page in advance of your visit.&nb…

This recent investment being made by the ORDA is significant. Just last year the resort became tickles with direct-to-lift access gates equipped with RFID technology. Let’s all hope for a lot more snow and a lot less Covid-19.
