What Chris Palmatier and Shelby Davis will be serving up next week is a long way from their barbecue roots. The couple will be dishing up one of our favorite cuisines: Thai Food, when they turn their smokehouse on Route 9 into a “pop up” restaurant.
A Pop Up what, you may ask? It’s when a restuarnt -- for one night only -- does something very unique by having the kitchen turn out a very different faire than they are known for. And it’s gonna be Thai for Chris and Shelby’s first outing. (For fodis, the good news is that Chris and Shelby are planning more over the Fall and Winter).
If you have never tasted Thai we strongly suggest you place your orders -- and reservations – now, in advance of next Wednesday’s event. For the uninitiated Shelby has produced this handy dandy guide to the Thai food expereince:
Thai food traditionally consists of fresh ingredients, prepared quickly, like in a wok. The flavors are layered and complex, and can be spicy. Thai food has been influenced by other Asian cultures, such as Chinese, Malaysia and Vietnam. Most Thai dishes incorporate three or four of the fundamental tastes like sweet, sour, salty or bitter, and are well balanced on the palate. Staple ingredients include rice or rice noodles, dark soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, curry, lemon grass, cilantro, soybean, turmeric, lime and coconut milk. Sriracha sauce is an up-and-coming condiment, made from red chilies. Not a textbook explanation, but hopefully gives an idea of what to expect if you haven't tried Thai before!
So what are you waiting for? For all the details, check out Chris and Shelby’s pop up restaurant page here.
