Mother's Day 2015: Celebrating All Of Our Special Women

There's a lot happening in town this Sunday. The folks at Sticks and Stones are going all out with a big spread, just for Mom. From Steve and Gary:

Meanwhile, at the Schroon Community Church, there's a pancake celebration. From Wendy Ryan: "Not sure what to do for Mom? Bring her to the Schroon Lake Community Church Pancake breakfast where the MEN are serving! 8:30 - 9:30AM... Yum!"

And over at Witherbee's Carriage House, patty and Amanda and Bill invite you to treat Mom to one of their specialties. Beef Wellington, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Cedar Plank Salmon, Prime Rib and many more entrees. Mom gets complimentary Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

The Big Beer Tent

Last Summer, the Paradox Brewery Beer Garden was the coolest place to hang out at. On those long, warm afternoons, folks would seek refuge under the giant tent, gather around the makeshift bar, sit with friends or even play a game of bean bag toss. And after buying pints and having their growlers filled  –  many would head out to local restaurants, where the PDX tastings continued, along with some mighty fine meals.

So we are happy to report that the 2015 version of the beer tent started construction today. Meanwhile the brewery’s upstairs tasting room is open this weekend with the following hours: Saturday, from 12-6 & Sunday, from 12-4. Cheers!

Good Climbing, Grace!

The good folks at Paradox Brewery are once again embracing their community and the amazing history of the Adorondacks.

After a special brewed batch of their Steam Beer, the Effingham, they are saluting the first lady of the 46ers, Grace Hudowalski, who now has her own peak named after her.

That decision was made to rename East Dix Peak, Grace Peak, by the United States Board of Geographic Names.  USBGN approved the petition submitted by the Forty-Sixers on June 12, 2014. The decision by the USBGN brings to a successful conclusion the campaign the 46ers began 15 years ago to name a high peak after Grace.

“Everyone has a mentor – a coach, parent or grandparent, friend, or teacher – who influences the outcome of their life. These angels are remembered but rarely honored.

"Grace Hudowalski was a mentor to thousands of people as she shared her enthusiasm for the Adirondacks with everyone. The naming of Grace Peak is a tribute, not only to the lives she touched, but to all of those angels who make a positive impact on our lives,” said Douglas Arnold, who led the naming effort.

There's a June 20th event at the North Hudson Town Park. That's where PDX will premiere their new Grace Peak Beer and where their special edition  glasses (pictured below) will be for sale. We’ll have all the details, soon!
