Schroon Lake Homes And Gardens: The 2015 Tour

By Pam Scavera, Friends of Schroon Lake Library.

Come spend a Sunday afternoon exploring some of Schroon Lake’s most interesting properties.  The 8th annual Friends of the Schroon Lake Library House and Garden Tour will take place on Sunday, July 26th from 12 noon– 4 pm, rain or shine.  All proceeds will benefit the Schroon Lake Public Library.  The tour offers visitors the opportunity to visit beautiful homes located around the lake and listen to their stories.  You will see soaring ceilings with beautiful candle chandeliers and various birds, a self-designed “great camp”, a historic bed and breakfast with hidden liquor shelves and a bar from the Waldorf Astoria, beautiful lakeside homes with stunning views, an expansive perennial garden with a fountain and gazebo, and a lovely inn that has been housing travelers for over 180 years. This year’s tour will have something for everyone.

At the conclusion of the tour you are invited to hear a presentation by Charlie Nardozzi, pictured above. Charlieis a nationally recognized garden writer, speaker, radio, and television personality. He has worked for more than 20 years bringing expert gardening information to home gardeners through radio, television, talks, on-line, and the printed page. Charlie delights in making gardening information simple, easy, fun and accessible to everyone. His energy, exuberance, and love of the natural world also make him an exciting public speaker and presenter.  He will speak on gardening in the North Country at the Boathouse on Dock Street from 4-5 pm. This presentation is included in your tour.  If you would like to attend the presentation only, tickets are $10 available at the door.

Starting July 1st, tickets, $22 per person, will be for sale at the Schroon Lake Public Library, located in the Town Hall Building on Leland Street in Schroon Lake, 532-7737  ext. 13.  The library is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 – 4, Thursday from 10-6 and Friday and Saturday from 10 – 2.  All tickets are non-refundable.  There are a limited number of tickets and the tour has sold out for the last several years so get your tickets early!
