A Schroon-Seagle-Stardom Connection

This is one feel good story: Sean Panikkar, a former Seagle Music Colony Tenor is a last minute addition to a new group, who make it big on NBC’s America’s Got Talent!

The group – Forte – wows the judges  -- including Howard Stern and Heidi Klum --  singing Andre Bocelli’s “The Prayer,” and move onto the next round.

Seagle’s Tony Kostecki always knew Sean Panikkar was destined for big things having tipped us last year as “one to watch”.

Says Tony:

We already knew that Sean, like all our SMC young artists, had talent, but now America knows too!  Make sure to watch to the end of the clip, when judge Howard Stern says "the new guy is the strongest singer".

You can read Sean’s bio here.

And make sure you tune into NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” next Tuesday night, July 30, as Sean continues his new journey.

Schroon Lake Citizens of the Year: 2013

Schroon Lake Citizens of the Year: 2013

Jane Claus and her husband Bob will most likely never forget the day they got the call letting them know they were the 2013 Schroon Lake Citizens of the Year.

“I was blown away,” Bob told Schroon Laker.

“Bob was speechless,” recalled Jane. “He said: ‘Can you say that again? I am going to put you on speaker phone’.”

The caller was Tony Kostecki, the new head of the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the award. The couple was presented with the honor at a dinner at Witherbee’s Restaurant on Tuesday night (June 18).

Pirates in Schroon -- ARRR

The high seas, pirates, a love story – ARRRR…sounds like the latest installment of that popular Johnny Depp franchise.

But it’s also the storyline of one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best loved comic operas, the Pirates of Penzance, which premieres tonight at the Seagle Music Colony for four sold out performances.

So popular is this show that a special matinee performance has been added for this Friday, August 12, at 2pm. For tickets click here.

The story features Frederic, who upon his 21st birthday, is released from an apprenticeship by a band of good natured pirates. Fred falls fast for Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. Things get sticky when it’s revealed that because Fred is a leap year baby (born on February 29) he technically has not served his full apprenticeship and thus must wait until he is 63 before he and Mabel can be together.
