Not only is our quaint town attracting hundreds to the Annual Ice Fishing Derby, expect to potentially see a few more sleds in town.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a free snowmobiling weekend to be held in towns all over  New York on March 7 and 8 for  out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers. So you have an excuse to follow the trail to Schroon’s own handcrafted beer mecca: The Paradox Brewery (which is really on the trail!!!). This weekend’s hours for the tasting room are  Friday 4-7/ Saturday 12-6 & Sunday 12-4.

They've got your Baby Back Ribs: Sticks and Stones!!!

Main Street bars and eateries will be packed all weekend, but don’t forget our eateries to the south: Sticks and Stones is offering up a baby back rib special, DeCesare’s Pizza is a crowd favorite and Witherbee’s Carriage House has their annual Crawfish Boil through Saturday night. All three are accessible via sled

And for folks fishing the lake way down south, be sure to say hi to the new owners of the Adirondack General Store, Maureen and Robert, who have plenty of hand warmers, fishing gear and edibles!

2015 Ice Fishing Derby: They're Off!

The sleds are zipping all over the lake, the tip ups are tipping as hundreds enjoy Day 1 of the Annual Schroon Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

Last minute entries were taken at sun up Saturday. Back again this year is a leaderboard, with the top entries in each category on Facebook.

From Joe Steiniger: “Winners announced at the club at 4 PM Sunday. I'll be posting the leaderboard of top fish all day from noon tomorrow through noon Sunday, so check in on this Facebook page to see if your fish will qualify before you bring it in to be weighed. Every fish we return to the lake is another fish to catch this summer! Please practice catch & release!

There’s another huge music season ahead, with two internationally known acts headlining this year’s Schroon Lake Arts Council season.

American roots trio “Red Molly” will be returning again for a third year and the internationally acclaimed “Cherish The Ladies”  --  a Celtic music group of 5 women and a dancer  -- will be making their Schroon Lake debut.

“I am simply thrilled with our season,” Jack Osborne, president of the Schroon Lake Arts Council tells us.

“Harpeth Rising is another group of up and coming three  young talented ladies scheduled to appear during our season.

“I have to say defensively that this season is NOT ‘all about the women’ – there are some men appearing as well”.
