It's a unique fundraiser for the Chamber! From the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Whitty-Brown:

"Only one more week to make your reservations for the Akwesasane Casino Bus Tour. This is going to be a fun filled day at the Casino... We already have 23 signed up and need only 15 more to roll the bus. Check out the poster or give me a call @ 518-532-7675. Cost is $45 for any Chamber of Commerce member in the North Country or $50 for non members. Payment is due by January 21st. We will be playing Bingo and watching movies on the way up and movies on the way back. Hope some of you can join us. We will be leaving from Schroon Lake Central School (you can park there) and stopping at Exit 30 and Pray's Farmers market on Route 3 in Plattsburgh (you can park there). We can also make an additional stop in Ellenburg if needed".

The Ices And The Ice Nots

Although it ain't much of a bragging contest, the north end of Schroon Lake can boast a thickish covering of ice. Meanwhile, those at the south end of the lake, could take a dip or jump in their boats and go fishing. The demarkation line seems to be around the Eagle Piont Campground. Indeed, whacky weather patterns aren't helping winter sports lovers, including sledders and those who love ice fishing all parts of our lake. Below freezing conditions early Saturday, turned into almost balmy Spring like weather in the high 30s, by early afternoon. What's your prediction for the rest of the season? Is "The Big One" still around the corner? Or should we start thinking about our Spring Gardens? Tell us in comments.

Kicking Back On A Sunday Night In Schroon

For most, it's a long weekend, meaning it's not a school night tonight1 And at Sticks & Stones, Steve and Gary are giving you an excuse to stay out! It's an acoustic evening with Adirondack Native Alex Smith! The music starts at 6:30pm.

Next up at S&S, it's Rich Ortiz, on January 29, for his second gig after his amazing Thanksgiving Weekend show.

Rich has entertained all overcountry, but he's a local hero right here in the 'Dacks, where his guitar, harmonica, and peddle bass playing is sheer magic.

Meanwhile, make your calendars for February 13th, when Witherbee's Carriage House hosts their Second Annual Open Mic DVD Release Party in the Loft. All proceeds from this incredibly worthwhile event will benefit the Wounded Warriors and the Harry Chapin Foundation.

Then, on  February 20th, Matt Dine will perform Tomaso Albinoni's Concertos for 2 Oboes, by playing live along with a pre-recorded film of himself playing the 2nd oboe part. Yowser!

Got a gig coming up? Send us the info at schroonlaker@me.com.
