Warren Sieme will be live from 6pm on at Sticks and Stones Friday Night

Forget any notion that summer may be winding down – we here in Schroon are just reaching full speed on the Adirondack FUN-O-METER.

This weekend there’s music for everyone, a musical for all, and dozens of fun activities all around us.

Among the music highlights: Be sure to check out Seagle’ Colony’s The Music Man,  a concert by Beartracks at the Boat House Theatre Saturday night , and Mark Piper’s Marking Time at the Paradox Brewery Saturday afternoon.

Warren Sieme will be live from 6pm on at Sticks and Stones. There’s a steak special tonight: center cut, choice filet mignon. On the beer front: Local favorite PDX, a Lil Sumpin’ from Lagunitas, Founders All Day IPA and Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.

And we are a little sad to report that tonight's your last chance to get a Rodeo Burger this year! The grill at the Word of Life Family Rodeo won’t be fired up again until June 30th, 2017!

Check out what else is happening, in our Summer Fun in The Adirondacks, 2016 section.

The TLC That Makes Schroon Lake Great

Schroon Lake's crystal water, so clean you can drink it -- is not all the work of Mother Nature.

It’s the unsung heroes of three associations, which keep Paradox, Schroon and Schroon River healthy: The Schroon Lake Association, The East Shore Schroon Lake Association and The Paradox Lake Association.

And tonight you can get an update on what’s happening with Schroon, at the Schroon Lake Association’s Annual Meeting at 7:30pm.

The meeting also features the SLA's annual presentation on “THE STATE OF THE TOWN AND ITS WATERSHED." at the Schroon Lake Boathouse on Dock Street at 7:30pm.

More from SLA President Mark Granger:

"Schroon Town Supervisor Michael Marnell will give a presentation on our Town. With the expansion of the Town Hall for an enlarged Court and library, the complete renovation of the tennis courts, new irrigation for the golf course and further work on dealing with surface water runoff issues, Mike’s speech is certain to be interesting and informative.

Following Mike, SLA Vice President Roger Friedman will moderate an expert panel on the State of the Watershed.  Speakers include: SLA Lake Manager Steve LaMere on water quality testing and history, Bob Bombard and Nick Rowell from Warren County Soil and Water on invasive harvesting and surveillance, Dave Reckahn from Essex County Soil and Water on septic system, road and shoreline erosion and reducing lakefront property and highway contribution to water pollution. Jim Lieberum manager of our surface water runoff prevention grant will outline the grant’s accomplishments and discuss what is next on the horizon for protecting our watershed"

So what are you waiting for!

The Music Man, Seagle Music Colony’s latest main stage play is getting nothing but rave reviews. And so are the youngest cast members: from Schroon Lake!

Six talented students,  from Schroon Lake Central School, play the kids of River City. They auditioned for their parts in June and have spent several weeks rehearsing. Congrats to all of these young thespians and their very, proud parents!

Why Are The Swim Platforms at Schroon’s Town Beach Missing?

TOURISM PHOTO

There has been chatter this week about why there are no swim platforms at the Town Beach.

The discussion has taken place on David Paterson’s Schroon Lake Facebook page. Various posters have lamented the disappearance of the two wooden fixtures, citing fond memories of their own time using them and how their children miss them.

So we set out to investigate what happened. Turns out this is the second year the beach has been without the platforms, according to Mike Marnell, The Schroon Lake Town Supervisor.

They were removed for safety reasons.

“They became a safety hazard for the life guards,” Mike told Schroon Laker today.

Mike said the lifeguard’s line of sight was blocked by kids using the platforms “and they (the lifeguards) couldn’t see if there were little kids behind the platform”.

“With all the commotion and horsing around on them, the lifeguards have to be able to see everybody.”

Mike said reports of the platforms being removed because they posed an insurance liability were not true.
