Adirondack Shindig Saturday

AdirondackShindigDowntown_lg.jpg

This is always a great way to spend a special summer, family friendly day: there’s the yard sale, a preview of the renovations of the historic 1881 church and a concert featuring The North Country Boys and Andy Smith and Bob Gagnon.

Start your day in the morning at the Adirondack Yard Sale beginning at 9 am and continuing until 3 pm near the Recreation Field, and enjoy the Family Activities Area and take a chance in the basket raffle.

Adirondack Shindig runs from 11 am until 3 pm. Take a walk through the original doors to see the work done in the newly renovated 1881 Union Church.

This historic structure served the Adirondack area residents and visitors for over a century. The historic building will once again serve the area as the Historical Museum Annex of the Horicon Historical Society. Hear the beautiful sound by ringing the still-operating bell as a donation toward the renovations.

The Shindig will feature musical entertainment, desserts and baked goods for sale by J. Gallup Farm. Great food and drinks are available at the Adirondack General Store. Bring your own chairs, get up and dance or sit back, relax, and enjoy a great day.

The day will benefit The Town of Horicon Historical Society. Sponsored by the Town of Horicon Historical Society and the Town of Horicon.

30TH ADIRONDACK MUSIC FOLK FESTIVAL SUNDAY

Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

The Folk Festival will kick off this year, Sunday August 11, 2019  (Noon to 5pm)  with the sounds of:

  • Roy Hurd MC with Tim Hartnett & Skip Smithson

  • Tony Trischka, Avery Merritt, Ethan Setiawan and Larry Cook

  • Atwater Donnelly, Aubrey & Elwood

  • Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

  • Phil Henry with Mitch Barron & Jeff Kimball

The event is hosted by the Schroon Lake Arts Council and has become a destination event in the Adirondacks. Bring a smile, a blanket and a chair and relax on the grass in front of the bandshell for an amazing Sunday afternoon.

But did you know the event has direct ties to  folk legend Pete Seeger and Hollywood star Alan Arkin.?  And it’s all because of one Schroon Laker: Flora Wilson Whitty.

We discovered these gems a few years back from former Arts Council President Jack Osbourne, who passed onto us an amazing story about the  history of the fest, written by by Benjamin Pomerance of the Lake Champlain Weekly.

You can read the full story, kindly reprinted with permission, in here  or download the story here as it appears in the Lake Champlain Weekly.

Dan Berggren and Darlene Gregson also get special mentions for their efforts in bringing the festival to life! Dan and Darlene also helped launch a special the festival, which you can about read here.
