There’s a community wide search underway in Schroon Friday for a missing dog named Pine. The cute, little pooch was recently adopted by Darren Woods and took off on Thursday from Pine Lane.

Many volunteers have searched high and low. There was a sighting late Thursday and now Darren believes his pooch might be in the Skylark area. More from Darren, as of 6am Friday:

“Out early looking for Pine. We believe he is still in the Skylark area between the beach and the house to the north. His crate is by the barn/garage of the house to the north. He will not come when you call and he is very fast. If you see him, please call me at 817-366-9218 and let me know where - if he is on a porch or somewhere where he can be cornered, block him with something - a chair, bench - anything to keep him there. He will not harm you. If you can let him into your house, he will just hide in a corner. We will come get him. I hope we can find him today. Thanks for all your help yesterday”.

Sharing this news from the Schroon Lake Chamber:

May 19, 2020

There have been a number of questions and comments (and speculation) over the past few days about Schroon Lake's Fourth of July Celebration. We understand and appreciate this is an event that draws quite a bit of attention. The Chamber has been working directly with Essex County leadership and Town Supervisor Subra as we continue to consider all options for the Fourth. We expect to make a final decision and formal announcement in the coming days. Please be assured that this decision is being made based on guidance from the State, input from the County, and with the safety and well-being of residents, visitors, participants, organizers and volunteers as our main concern. Thanks for your patience.

Schroon’s vibrant and innovative music scene has lost all of the signature events sponsored by the Schroon Lake Arts Council because of safety issues associated with the Covid 19 pandemic.

The announcement came Wednesday from the Art’s Council’s Sharon Hooper. More from Sharon:

“The Schroon Lake Arts Council has been carefully assessing the impact that Covid-19 has had on our lives here in the North Country. We take seriously the responsibility of assuring the health and safety of our Artists, volunteers and audience members during this upcoming summer. Accordingly, we have decided to cancel our Boathouse Concert Series,  our weekly Jam sessions, Porch Fest and The Adirondack Folk Music Festival for this season. As always, we thank you for all your support and look forward to offering a wonderful season for 2021.  Stay safe everyone.”

The Board and volunteers of the Schroon lake Arts Council work tirelessly year round to bring national and local talent to Schroon. Their events ultimately attract thousands of music lovers here.

The Art’s council’s slate of performances, along with the Seagle Music Colony shows, the July 4th concert in the Town Park, live performances in area restaurants and bars and the beer tent of the Paradox Brewery, The Open Mic Night at Witherbee’s hosted by Mark Piper -- even Karaoke at the Timberwolf  --  are what makes Schroon the capital of the Adirondack music scene.
