Breaking the Ice -- Schroon Style

Betcha didn’t know Schroon Lake had its own ice cutter? Neither did we, until we saw this video of a pontoon boat cutting through an icy layer on the canal at the Schroon Lake Marina over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The boat belongs to the Friedman family – who by their own account – don’t want summer to end. That means their boat and dock are usually the last out of the Lake. So when Joel Friedman set out to bring the boat to the marina for its winter servicing, he had no idea what the conditions were like in the canal. His brother Roger  -- behind the camera -- tells us that there was about half an inch ice on the canal surface. So how did the Friedmans make out? Watch -- and listen -- to the video to find out.
