Arthur “Buddy” Nelson

Schroon Lake lost another treasure this week, with the passing of Arthur “Buddy” Nelson.

Buddy, who owned Drake’s Restaurant and Motel here in Schroon Lake, and eateries downstate, died on May 2. He will be remembered as a free spirit, with a big smile, a can do attitude and his willingness to help everyone. If you have a memory of Buddy, please share them with us in comments.

Arthur Nelson, Jr. "Buddy", on May 2, 2012 of Huntington. Beloved father of Tracie Vaughan (Dan), Timothy (Laurel) and Brian Nelson. Cherished brother of Diane Nelson, Kathy Mazur (Tom), Craig Nelson and the late Scott and Ricky. Buddy remained close to his former wife Patricia Nelson. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Buddy was a longtime proprietor of Orlando's Deli of Manhasset and an entrepreneur of many other business ventures. Buddy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Family will receive friends at the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home Inc., 75 Mineola Ave, Roslyn Heights for a Memorial visitation on Friday 4-9PM. A Memorial service was held on Saturday May 5th, 4:00PM at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Huntington.
