The Weekender: Your Guide to Fun In Schroon

With picture perfect weather predicted for this weekend -- where dads everywhere will be celebrated -- get out and enjoy this spectacular gift.

On Saturday, it's the 11th annual Schroon Lake Lions Club Golf Tournament at the Town course.

We can’t think of a better way to have a boat load of fun while helping to raise funds for scholarships for graduating Schroon Lake Central Seniors. Besides a great day of golf  -- with some terrific cash prizes – this event mark's the return of the famous Lion Cook Shack, pumping out delicious burgers, dogs, and sausages with peppers.

“Once again, Flanagan’s is our big sponsor (the 19thhole!)  along with Friedman Realty and 30 other local businesses who sponsor tees and greens,” organizer Mark Whitney told us.

For the uninitiated, the 19th hole is the popular 100 yards downhill --  $150  closest to the pin shoot-out – which is always competitive. The day kicks off with  a continental breakfast and registration beginning at 7:30 am. Team selection begins at 8:00 am with a shot gun start at 8:30 am. If you plan on going, make your reservations now by calling 518 532-9359.

Also, Saturday, there's a 5K and kids fun run, to help raise funds to buy lunches for a school in Nicaragua. It's organized by Mark's daughter Clare, a Junior rom Schroon lake Central. You can read all about Claire's inspiring story here.

And don't forget Saturday's big Pet-A-Palooza at Curtis Lumber. What are your plans? Tell us in comments.
