Your Week In Schroon: Don't Ya Love Summer?
/What a glorious week we just celebrated! If you missed it, there's more of the same this week. And we extend a warm welcome (pun intended) to all of the vacationers and day trippers here in Schroon this week.
And if you don't know already, this town is hopping. Here is your go to guide for a wek of fun. Starting this week is the first of the Summer Swim Lessons for Kids. Sign up with the lifeguards at the beach. And Prometheus, Ridley Scott's new film, plays everynight at 8pm 'til Thursday at the Strand.
Monday
Head on down and stock up on a week's worth of provisions at our weekly Farmer's Market. Last week a couple of vendors sold out of their goodies. From organic meats, to fresh veggies of all shape and sizes, wine and baked goods, this is not to be missed.
Town Hall parking lot. 9 am - 1pm.
Kids Yoga. Stretch the little ones bodies and imaginations with this fun class for kids taught by our own Yoga Godess Deb Philp. Deb combines stories and stretches in this fun and imaginative 30 minutes class, which ends with a "calming relaxtion." (I think I need to take this class!) 12.30 - 1 pm. Open Jam Session
From 7pm - 10pm tonight you can see some top class jamming' at our weekly Acoustic Band Jam. A bunch of talented locals and visitors gather to pump out the jams, with fiddles, guitars and banjoes. At the Boat House. Free.
Co-Ed basketball for kids at the Town Courts starting at 6 pm. Grades 7 - 12. (Also on Wednesdays)
Tuesday
There's a great way for kids to learn about the history of the Adirondacks in this weekly summer tradition at The Paradox House Gallery Retreat. Kids 4 to 10 hear stories about the characters who made the ADKs what they are today.
The first of two Narrated Boat Tours ( the other runs Thursday) takes off from the Word Of Life dock at 11am. If you don't have access to a boat while you are here, this is a terrific way to explore the northern reaches of our lake and at the same time learn about our town's rich past. The tours are narrated by local Laura Donaldson, who knows more than she can fit into this 30 - 45 minute tour. Advance tickets are a must and are available at the Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. 518-532-7675.
Kids got Wimbledon fever? The Town Of Schroon sponsors weekly tennis lessons on Tuesdays at 9 am and Thursdays at 5pm. Details at the Town Hall.
Zumba Queen Cathy Peace sweats off the calories twice a week at her Zumba workout. Every Tuesday and Thursday mornings (8 am to 9 am) @ the Schroon Lake Central School gym, join Cathy for some rockin’ Zumba. $5 per class.
Wednesday
Need a good summer read? Check out the weekly Used Book Sale in the basement of the Hudson Headwater Medical Center.

Story time for kids at the Public Library goes at 10.30 am. Guest readers each week read and bring children's stories to life.
The Twelve Labors Of Hercules. (See our story below). This is a play especially written for kids and performed by the fine, talented, actors from the Adirondack Shakespeare Company, aka ADK Shakes. 11 am.
Family Square Dance. Grab your partners, kids, aunts, grandpas and Uncle Otis and head on down to the town park for the first Square Dance of the year. This is one of the treasures of a Schroon Summer. The fun starts at 7pm.
Thursday
If your missed Tuesday's Narrated Boat Tour, do it today. Tickets at the Chamber 518-532-7675.
Art In The Park. Local artist Ann Gregson sets up shop within a weekly art project for kids. This week's project is Killer Kaleidoscope Paintings. When we stopped by last week, Moms, granddads and Nannas were at the table arting away. 518-532-0275.
Meet Domino The Great, and see his magic show at the Town Hall meeting room. 11am.
The weekly Arts and Crafts Market, on the lawn of the Town Hall, continues to grow and attract new, local artisans. From hand made jewelry, to soaps, to clothing, you won't leave empty handed. 10 am to 4 pm.
The Summer Nights Big Concert series continues at the the Jack Wyrtzen Center in Pottersville with performer Dean Ortner.
Open Mic night at the loft at Witherbee's Carriage House. The room was packed last week and the talent -- as always-- was awesome.

Friday
This week's craft project at the library -- Dream Big With Sand Art -- Sounds like a ton o' fun. Pre-registration is required. 518-532-7737x13.
The Family Fun Night and Rodeo at the WOL Ranch is not to be missed. We were there last week and had an incredible amount of fun with our group. Watch for our full report this Wednesday, but mark your calendars now. 7pm WOL Ranch, Route 9, Pottersvile.
