A Helping Hand for Local Schroon Area Community Groups

Schroon Laker Ann Breen Metcalfe reminds us that there are thousands of dollars up for grabs from the Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region.

The group will hand out $9,000 in grants to non-profit organizations in the towns of Schroon, Minerva, Chester, Horicon and Johnsburg in 2013. The money comes from a fund set up by a long time Gore area seasonal resident, Michael Ellis, who participated in a conference on the "how's" of community improvement organized by regional philanthropists and the Adirondack Community Trust. (ACT).

Shortly after The Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region (CFGMR) was born. Michael wanted to make a positive difference to the area.

From ACT:
"The CFGMR is overseen by community volunteers. The advisory committee changes over time and the volunteers ensure that every dollar is spent well and wisely. We thank the volunteers who help the fund grow and encourage people interested in supporting the effort to join in through volunteering and charitable giving to help increase the fund's granting capacity."

Meg Wood from Schroon is on the  advisory committee. The deadline for applications is June 15, 2013. You can download an application here.

From Ann:

"Any non-profit with 501(c)(3) tax status is eligible; groups lacking that status can affiliate with an organization that has it. Many Schroon organizations have benefited from these grants. This is a reminder that grants are available again this year. For more information see the Adirondack Community Trust website".
