“This flock of 3 males and 1 female Hooded Mergansers were taking a rest stop in Lockwood Bay on Schroon Lake this past weekend. The female has the reddish brown head and the males are eye catching with their fan-shaped, black and white crest. They winter in the southeastern part of the United States. They eat fish, frogs and crustaceans. They are not a very social birds as they rarely mingle with other birds and usually travel in small flocks of less than 12 birds. Enjoy."
Thank you Pat.
