Tony Kostecki, the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce President, was thrilled with the grants.
“This is great for Schroon Lake, as all of these benefit the town, making it more appealing for year-round residents and tourists”.
Councilman Rodger Friedman was particularly happy about the grant for improvements to Schroon’s waterfront. “We have a lot of public access waterfront, so this will only enhance the experience for everyone who uses our lake,” Roger said. Schroon will share in $290,923 with the towns of Crown Point and Wilmington.
The Essex County Community Resources applied for the grant for $192,500 for the town ice rink and tennis court improvements.
From the Governor’s report: "This project is to reverse deterioration of the tennis courts and hockey rink at the 15-acre town park adjoining Main Street, a popular destination for the residents and tourists who frequent Schroon Lake" As we have reported on numerous occasions, the condition of Schroon's Tennis Courts have been a constant thorn in the side of local tennis fans and others who use them.
The grant to the ADK Shakes Company will provide funds for an employee to promote the acting company, which in turn will bring more tourists to the area and will greatly benefit the revitalization of Scaroon Manor.
From ADK Shakes Co-Founder Patrick Siler:
"ADK Shakespeare is thrilled to have received funding from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)'s Workforce Development program as part of this year's North Country Regional Economic Development grant. The funding will be directed toward the creation of a full-time Marketing Assistant, who will be responsible, among other things, for helping us get the word out to the communities in Adirondack Park about the work we are doing to restore and revitalize the Scaroon Manor Amphitheater on Schroon Lake, and the unique opportunity ADK Shakespeare provides to see fully professional, world-class theater here in the Adirondacks. The creation of the new position is a sign that, with strong community support, ADK Shakespeare and the Scaroon Manor Revitalization project are poised for tremendous growth in the years to come".
