Going Once, Going Twice....

Several hundred items from two large estates are getting a lot of attention from folks in the North Country, eager to snag a few bargains and pieces of history this weekend at Gokey’s first Auction of the year.

Furniture, a giant postcard collection, Frontier Town and other North Country theme park memorabilia are among the items that will go under the auctioneer’s hammer, starting at 2pm at Gokey’s North Hudson Trading  Post on Saturday.

There is a stack of furniture, old signs, antique toys, glass wear, old skis and numerous other collectables. There are also  seven 1950s era enamel topped tables.

“We’ve had a lot of hits on our website, so we are expecting a big crowd,” Auctioneer and owner, John Gokey told Schroon Laker today.
“We’ve had several calls about the Adirondack post card collection and the theme park items.”

At last count, John said there were between 550 – 600 items. “With these types of lots, we will always get a big turnout.”

John has been calling auctions for more than 27 years. He couldn’t even begin to guess how many times he’s said ‘going once, going twice’ when we asked him.

“Let’s just say, it’s a lot.”
