RIP: Dolores Becker Christian

SCHROON LAKE — Dolores Becker Christian, 76, passed away Saturday Sept. 20, 2014, at Heritage Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ticonderoga after a short illness.

Born July, 5, 1938, in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ethel (Elborne ) Becker.

She married her loving husband, William G. Christian, on Jan. 3, 1959, after growing up with him since age 4 in the same Queens neighborhood. She wasn’t just a wife, she was his life.

Dolores worked for many years at the Seagle Colony Music School in Schroon Lake in housekeeping and maintenance, and considered the Seagle family as a part of her own family.

She was a charter member of the Mountain Musket Hunting Club and was an avid hunter. In her later years, when she was unable to walk through the woods, “Ma Kettle” was the radio relay person and would be a part of the day’s hunt by relaying messages to other members of the hunting party. She also enjoyed doing yard work and taking care of her flower and vegetable gardens, playing cards and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their “Nana” and always had a piece of candy in the drawer for the children.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, William and Walter Farrell, and Frederick Becker Jr.; her sisters, Lydia (Becker) Koerick, Patricia (Becker) Kamine and Eileen (Becker) Barnes.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 56 years, William G. Christian; her brother, Jerry (Barbara) Farrell, of Florida; her sister, Gertrude (Thomas) Hassett, of New York; her sons, William F. (Patricia) and Dennis (Sandra) Christian, of Schroon Lake and Joseph (Catherine) Christian; and her daughter, Diane Christian, both of Florida; her grandchildren, William E. (Grace) Christian, Amanda (Brandon) Christian and Cassidy Christian, of Schroon Lake, Ashleigh (Gordon) Christian of Minerva, Michael Brook Christian,Tiffany (Ryan) Sheinlin and Austin Christian, of Florida; and her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jace, Teyah, Gage and Serenity.

The family would like to thank Dolores’s good friend and caregiver Linda Anauo.
