Town Supervisor Jeff Subra and the board hope to hear from more folks and their views on changing Schroon’s open container law.

Last month only a handful of observers turned up for an online Go To Meeting and Subra said on the call he’d like to have more input from community before it goes for a vote.

An amendment to allow several events this year to obtain a permit to serve craft beer, wine and hard cider at public events on town property was passed three votes to one.

Those events are the recently cancelled Schroon Lake Arts and Crafts Fair,  a wine and cheese festival and a beer tent at the finish line of the Adirondack Marathon.

The proposed change  -- an exception to the current open container policy originally signed into law in 1968 -- would allow vendors to apply to the town for a permit for the consumption of craft beer, wine and hard cider at public events. The first meeting was on May 4, 2020.
