A Step Back In Time

Long before European settlers landed here, the Algonquian were one of the most populous and widespread native tribes, numbering in the hundreds. Today, hundreds of thousands of individuals identify with various Algonkian, (aka the Algonquian) peoples.

On Monday, their stories will come to life with Algonkian songs and stories, presented by Marge Bruchac and Justin Kennick. This husband and wife duo has performed together since 1994, offering a unique show featuring the history, songs and stories of the Algonkian Indians of New England.

The performance takes place today (Monday),  at 4pm at the Strand Theater. Presented by The Schroon-North Hudson Historical Society. Full details are here

Golden Oldies, Doo Wop in Schroon Tonight

Travel back in time tonight when the a cappella Doo Wop group Flipsydz perform golden oldies at the Boat House.

Flipsydz, (Flipsides) will bring a “a little bit of the Bronx”, to the lake, according to the Schroon Lake Arts Council, who organized the concert. The group, whose members include accomplished operatic singers, choral members and solo artists, will perform some of the best loved rock n roll songs from the 1950s and 1960s.

We are thinking fans of the Jersey Boys, will be right at home tonight. Showtime is at 8 pm in the BoatHouse – not under the street lights. For info call 518-532-9295.

Amped Up Open Mic Night

Photo: Sharon Piper. The action at last week's jam session

Tonight at Witherbee’s it’s the weekly open mic night. Unlike the acoustic jam sessions at the Boat House each Monday, there’s a PA system ready for you to plug into, courtesy of Mark Piper, co-owner of the Schroon Lake Bed and Breakfast. Of course, acoustic instruments are also welcome.

Come on out tonight. We’ll be there having a frosty cold beverage, after we finish staining the deck!
