Need An Explanation?

Summer folks and visitors maybe a little taken aback to see the interaction between pineapples and turkeys conjured up by the folks at Mr. P’s Mountain Smokehouse.!

But seasoned folks up here know that it’s a recipe for deliciousness. This is how the smokehouse does their Thanksgiving Turkeys, and the result is a  ender and taste bud filled zinger.

And turkey smoked this way is the star ingredient in the Smokehouse’s sandwich of the month. Also look out this week for smoked salmon. From Chef Shelby:

“For people who haven't tried the salmon, it's not the thinly sliced, salted version; they really need to come in for a taste”. (She is gosh, dang, right!)

Our other tips: Brisket. If you are around when they come out of the smoker,  Mr. P shares the burnt ends to whoever happens to be around.  And for Chef Shelby’s GLUTEN-FREE sweet treats, hurry in for Dr. Pepper chocolate cake and lemon cupcakes in the bakery case.

It truly is hard to believe Paradox Brewery turned one year old on July 22nd. It has become such a gathering place for the community, where you are sure to bump into a friend or neighbor, it seems like it’s always been there.

A huge congrats goes out to brewery founders Paul Mrocka and his wife Joan, David and Vicky Bruce, Vaughn Clark and his wife Jenn and their team of investors.

You can read the history of how Paradox Brewery came to be here, or by searching Paradox in our website’s search engine. It seems Schroon Laker has chronicled Paradox Brewery’s every move  over the last 12 months. The brewery also gets a nice write-up by sisters Kim and Pam Ladd, who have self-published "Happy Hour in the High Peaks: An Adirondack Bar Guide"  and a companion Happy Hour Trail Passport.

And what would a birthday be without a party?  This Saturday, (July 26, 2014) from 2pm to 7pm, there’s going to be a big shin dig on the grounds of the brewery. There will be food, raffles, amber beverages and live music by a Someone You Can XRay, described as a “rock band with a little of everything,” Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the afternoon.

Drake's Pasta Night

One of the best deals in town is Drake’s Monday night pasta special – all regular pasta dishes are just $11.95, and include a side salad, delicious bread and yummy olive oil dipping sauce.

The restaurant is under its second year of ownership by Chef Lorenzo and his gregarious wife Jasmine. On Wednesday nights it’s their seafood specialty night, with fresh clams, calamari and New England Lobster. On Thursday night Drake’s features its two hour Happy Hour from 4pm – 6pm.

And if you love seafood and pasta together, you must try their Zuppa Langosta  --  an overflowing plate consisting of half a good size lobster, clams, scallops, calamari and shrimp in a garlic and white wine sauce served over pasta. If you prefer traditional red sauce, that is also an option. ($22.95). You can read our review of Drake’s here. Oh, and you must save room for desert.

Drake’s is located at 1299 US Route 9. (Just south of Curtis Lumber). 518-532-9040
