If any of the above applies to you – then make sure you are in the water on the Saturday of the Memorial Day Weekend -- for the first ever blessing of the boats ceremony.

Organizers of the event – part of the inaugural Schroon Lake Opening Weekend Festivities – said today that boaters no longer need to pre-register, hoping to attract a slew of boaters who may not know about the event to join in the festivities at the last minute.

“It’s perfectly fine to just show up on the day,” organizer Shelby Davis said today.

“But we’d still like to have folks get into the spirit of the event and decorate their boats. If you decorate your boat, you could win Best Pirate Ship, Funniest Boat or Best Adirondack Style Boat”

There are two blessing of the boat events: the Non-motorized Blessing begins at 9.30 am at two locations: the Schroon Lake Town Dock and Adirondack Boat Launch. The motorized Boat Parade and Blessing of the Fleet will start at the Town Beach at 2pm.
